Yes, it would be tricky to cook on, but it would be better than nothing...a super back-up plan, especially in a cold winter climate. They are a help in the winter to keep our heating bills down.
As far as cooking, I don't use it that much. I do roast chestnuts and warm up orange peels for their fragrance. In the winter, there is always a pot of water or copper tea pot on top putting moisture in the house.
It's hard to regulate the temperature for exact cooking, but during power outages I did use it. We were without electricity for 14 days. So the cast iron skillets and the woodstove were put to good use! I felt like a real pioneer woman.
The kitchen is almost complete. Hope to be done by this Friday. Just in time for a Friday Photo.Cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00022397662111150895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2786424217841286435.post-54016090761634370692011-11-14T09:46:55.613-05:002011-11-14T09:46:55.613-05:00Cheryl,

Is the woodstove something you already had and kept in the remodel? I think it's a great idea if you have power outages in the winter and all. How much do you use it for cooking? Or is it more for a heat source? Love your blog!Kay Shepherdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02170432398873018444noreply@blogger.com
